Ledges State Park Just south of Boone IA.  North, North East of  Des Moines, IA.  Early Oct or within 2 weeks span of the first frost, this park is amazing with all its colors and wildlife.  Developed by the Army Corps of Engineers with trails and scenic wonders rich with culture from our beloved past, you'll want to spend the day exploring and taking as many trails as your body will let you.  Very relaxing and a wonderful family experience of all ages!!!!!

Ha!  All those gorgeous places to Experience on a motorcycle, and MSN puts an ad for a cruise ship in the corner.  Like spending a week on a floating hotel trapped with 1000 other people could compare?  Not even the same target crowd here.  New Zealand's going on the bucket list, and I don't mean on a boat!!!

Grossglockner Alpine mountain road in Austria is also worth a vote as the world's top scenic route.  At Edelweisspitze this is the highest elevation point in Europe wher a car can travel (approx 8,500 feet above sea level).

Ice Field Pkwy from Banff to Jasper B.C.

Rocky Mtn Nat. Park from Estes Park to Winter Park Co.

Grand Tetons and Yellowstone From Jackson Hole to Cooke City Mt.

Lewis and Clark Trail from Sun Valley to Salmon ID.

U.S. 2 from Bellingham Wash. east into Glacier Nat. Park in Montana. Multiple ranges to cross, awesome views, lakes, and small towns which make it seem like you're back in the 1950s  600 miles of heaven; take a videocam or you'll be sorry. Overnight halfway in Newport, WA at the Idaho state line. An unforgettable trip.

The Mohawk Trail west from Greemfield, Mass. to the NY line, especially in mid-October when foliage is peaking.

Or the Cangamangas Highway in northern N.H. in late Sept.-early Oct.

Try route 89 in California, southeast from Mt. Shasta over several Sierra passes to rte 395 on the E. side of the Sierras. Incredible views and great small towns to stop at.
