As a teenager on dates in rural farmland of northern Illinois in the mid to later 1950's, the Aurora was a huge magical, flowing curtain, an intense 'laser like' light show of blues and greens, extending across the northern horizon. The educational Solar themed parking dates, were far more fascinating, like watching a 'drive-in' movie on the largest surround screen in the world. :>)

Best Northern Lights display I have seen was soaking in the Blue Lagoon at night.  I been to Iceland many times and have seen them on every visit except on our last trip... which was November 2012

My wife and I have seen the aurora borealis in the state of Wyoming. Of course, this occurred way out in an area where the lights of a city did not shine. The stars were also magnificent. We watched the aurora borealis over several nights. Can’t say if this is a common occurrence.

You cannot imagine this experience. There is no photo that can do it justice. You have to see it with your own eyes to see the scope and magnificence of it all. A true miracle of nature.

I lived on a farm in Indiana and we had many views of the northern lights now 50 years later,

bad air industry etc has taken our hoosier fire works are long gone.

I first saw it from an airplane following the polar route from San Francisco to Amsterdam.  Passed the time better than any entertainment the TVs had to offer.  Will never forget seeing them from that altitude.
