Carnival and other holidays worth a trip

Visiting another country, or even another region of the U.S., during a holiday you don’t celebrate at home is an outstanding way to absorb the local culture. You can even pretend you’re a native by dressing the part, waving a flag, raising a glass or paying respects to the people or traditions being honored.

RedboneTT you are not a true Trini. True the crime is bad, but crime is bad everywhere. I went to London and the Bobbies were like take off your jewelry. Caribana is an imitation of Trinidad carnival and is put on by all the West Indians who left the Islands, just as Labor Day in New York is. Rio's crime is even worst than Trinidad. We don't need people who never lived on the island giving it a bad name. Things have change, but guess what their is now party I would rather go to than that in T and T.

Trinidad's carnival is highly overrated, it is near and dear to Trinidadians only, the music is horrible now, ( a bunch of middle aged men singing rehashed lyrics, jump, prance, whey yuh rag, flag, take advantage)  and the crime is not worth the risk of going anymore. Went there three times (2009, 2011, 2012) last two years stayed at the Hyatt Regency in the capital, even though the hotel was safe, you could barely walk 300 yards without someone asking you for money in an intimidating way. My parents were born there so I am not harboring any ill feelings towards the country, just check out the State Department travel advisories for the country, the government can't do anything about the crime because they are incompetent. Things will never change, its Rio and Caribana  for me . The truth hurts , but its true.

So true ken647. There is nothing like a trini carnival. I was so hoping to trinidad in one of the photos. Goes to show how much research was put into the story.

So sad to see that a country as Trinidad and Tobago is not even mentioned here as one of the places to go for carnival when its known as one of the top 3 places in the world to go for a good carnival  who ever did the research for this is lost in space
