California in the movies: Visit "The Big Lebowski," "Godfather" and more on location

The first moving picture was made in France, in 1888, and since then movies have been made all over the world. But in the minds of most people, movies — and their offspring, TV shows — are pretty much inextricably associated with California. Indeed, one of the joys of driving around the state is turning a corner and stumbling onto a building that looks familiar, only to realize, "Oh yeah! This is where Mrs. Doubtfire lives."

"Back To The Future"  was filmed at The Puente Hills Mall (renamed the Twin Pines Mall? for the movie) in the City of Industry (Rowland Heights) .. It looks quite different now. It had a great parking lot to learn how to drive stick....

There was quite a list written in the paper about all the different movies, etc. that have been filmed in Sonoma County. Like:

Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" was filmed in Bodega.

Peggy Sue Got Married was filmed at Santa Rosa High School and all over Petaluma.

Mumford was also all over Sonoma Co. including First Presbyterian Church.. while I was there! (they had to ask us to keep it down o_0 )

McDonald Ave is another favourite spot to film because of all the amazing Victorian houses.

American Graffiti, Scream, Basic Instinct, the list goes on...

The "Pacific Heights" house in SF, with Michael Keaton would have been another to add.

I believe you are wrong about where Grease was filmed. I remember it being at Excelsior High School in Norwalk, Ca. Grew up there and was excited to know that I was in the same city as one of my favorite movies was filmed.

This house has also been featured in other films, including "Harper" and "Into the Night."  I believe one of the previous owners was Marion Davies."

I drove past a house that had a movie poster of a movie filmed in California with those famous actors about that thing that happens in the California beaches. The actors sing and dance...
