14 unexpected winter destinations

Sure, Florida, Hawaii and the Caribbean all have much to offer the traveler January through April, but how many coco locos can a person really enjoy? It’s a big world out there: All of the following destinations feature fewer crowds, intriguing culture and recreation – and, not least, lower prices.

Been to Fairbanks, Denali, Anchorage, and Vancouver.  Loved all of it !!!!!! Did see a moose and a mama grizzly bear and her baby, lots of caribou.  Went in mid July. The flowers were beautiful. I don't know how anyone could say anything bad about it.

I love Sioux Falls.I want to be in this city all years.I do not like to fly,even in London or Barcelona,even for Mars.

Wow!  That cathedral in Barcelona was roofed and sided when I visited there in 1950. It had been under construction for about a century by then. Must be a government subsidisid project. Some good things take time. Wonder how many Holy Family cathedrals there are in the world. None of this splendor.

Vancouver is the nicest city in north america and well worth seeing any time. I've only been there in summer but would love to visit in winter. I'd also love to see the aurora borealis and hot springs of Fairbanks. Sounds extremely inviting! Been to Anchorage and Denali in summer. The northwest and Alaska are so nice if you love the outdoors.

I was in Anchorage a week ago and the place was a mess.  Even the locals were depressed.  One thing I learned, fly into Anchorage and get out of the arm-pit of Alaska asap.  Alaska is beautiful but keep Anchorage to a minimum.

Why would I go to these places (most of them) for a winter vacation.  Everybody knows how to avoid winter.  Why not enjoy it.  A couple of nights and cross country skiing at Minnesota's Superior National Forest at one of the Lodges on the Gunflint trail would tell you of winter.  If you want winter, go winter.

Was in Fairbanks for a month never saw the lights or a moose but enjoyed Cheneya Hotsprings.
