Great mirages of the world

Though mirages are just optical illusions, they are very real manifestations of physics and remind us that the universe is not as linear and straightforward as we’d like to think. While the classic arid-land mirage – a “lake” shimmering in the distance in a searing desert – is what most envision, there are many types around the world.

That's the "California green flash".  In Florida, we get them at sunrise (and they are hard to catch, but real).  There are spots in Key West, where you can sit in a chair on the beach, and see the sunrise green flash in the morning, and the evening sunset green flash, from the same chair, in the same spot.  I've heard that if you have a flat enough, clear enough horizon, you can see green flashes on land, as well.

Re:  the green flash:  I knew a pilot (long since gone) who flew westward at sunset once and was able to see the "green flash" twice on the same sunset!

Mirages are a common sight in the deserts of the world.   Here in the Mojave, we often see them on the highways, and the dry lake beds.

The beauty of nature truly is something to behold, I have been blessed with the opportunity to travel this great land and see so much of it, yes I am so thankful for all I have seen and might see again.

These are not mirages.  They are examples of good nature photography however.
