10 scenic drives to take this fall

Fall — that blissful period before inclement weather sets in — is the perfect time of year to go for a scenic drive. Snowstorms have not yet blocked roads, and you won’t have to avoid summer’s heat. But the best thing about taking a scenic drive during fall is that you will get to see leaves that are turning gold, crimson and amber. Take most of these drives from the beginning of October through the middle of November, when the weather is just right: warm and sunny during the days and crisp — but not too cold — at night.

Hyway 35 from LaCrosse Wi down to Prairie du Chien Wi along the Mississippi River is breathtaking.  Stop at Wyleusing State Park south of PdC and enjoy the panoramic view of the River from various lookouts.

I-87 North out of Albany, NY to the Canadian border has great views for leaf peepers. And it was named the Most Scenic Highway in America for 2 years running back in the 60s.

Though Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine can take your breathe away with their fall foliage views.

Virginia is very beautiful in the fall.  The winters are like a Currier and Ive's scenic beauty picture.  In my opinion, the fall and winter seasons are the prettiest there.

Take a trip through the Ozark National Forest, and stay at the Petite Jean State Park, Ark. Arkansas has the most cleanest bathrooms of any state park I have been too. I went at the end of October several years ago to see the fall foliage and it was very colorful. The weather was nice too!

A lovely drive both winter and summer. Watch for Eagles as you drive along the Beautiful Delaware River. Stop at the Lackawaxen House on the Pa. Side of the river as you cross the Roebling bridge. Sitting on the deck overlooking the river is magical!!
