Fairs, Fairs and More Fairs – an American Tradition

Mention the classic American “state fair” to most people, and anecdotes start to fly like watermelon seeds and daredevil biplanes. For city dwellers, the state fair provides insight into a foreign existence, where brushing a mare’s mane is as important as texting a friend. For the rural denizen, the state fair remains the social event of the year, a time to show off the product of hard work, catch some country culture and leave an often-isolated environment to join a community of friends.

Toss in a midway first kiss, an elephant ear the size of Rhode Island and a demolition derby, and this annual mash-up of city and country is hard to beat.

My favorite  fair is the Clay County Fair in Spencer, Iowa. It is billed as the world's greatest county fair, but aren't they all!!

I was just at the MN State Fair yesterday and it is contains more interests than the Great Exhibition.  People watching is amazing, interesting things are everywhere and the food- more variety than anywhere!  My daughter had a fried Twinkie on a stick!  It's awesome- you betcha!

There is no other state fair that can even compare to the Great Minnesota Get Together. Texas is the largest only because it runs more days than any other fair. Minnesota is and always will be number one for attendance. Even beats Iowa on that count.
What does Minnesota's fair have the others don't? Pronto Pups! Better than any corn dog you'll ever eat.

And deep fried cheese curds, Wisconsin could only hope to have. Props however to Wisconsin for the creampuffs. Best in the Country!!!! I live in Florida now but still make it back to Minnesota for the fair.

Who ever wrote this article doesn't have a clue as to what makes a great state fair.

Don't forget the PERMANENT OUTDOOR GARDEN RAILROAD.

There's somehting like OVER 8,000 FEET OF TRACK.

It's one of, if not, the LARGEST in the country.

"Do the Puyallup!"

With the second largest total attendance and most people per day of any State Fair, Minnesota in fly over land is not on your list? Shame on you!

I live in MN, and many who have visited our state fair from other states, think we have one of the best. Personally, I think so too!! It's clean, lots to do...something for everyone...and I believe the prices are comparable!

Come visit us; our fair runs through Labor Day!!
