Lake Champlain is a colorful lake located in beautiful country too. Didn't see the legendary "Champ" monster, however.

Lake Tahoe is certainly beautiful. When you're on the highway coming to it, you're at a high elevation and you can see the entire lake, community and forests. You can see it all! Totally serene.  Also, Lake Ontario is the prettiest of the Great Lakes. Cool, crystal blue and clean. I saw this from Fort Niagara (US) and Fort George (Canada). Check it out.

Ok world.....here is the #1.
Freshwater West Okoboji Lake in Northwest Iowa. Covering 3,850 acres.
West Okoboji is often considered to be one of the three blue water lakes in the world. The other two are Lake Geneva in Switzerland & Lake Louise in Canada. It is mentioned that this fact was stated in National Geographic many years ago. Late 1890s Iowa State Geological texts speak of the "blue water" of West Okoboji. West Okoboji is glacial lake, created by the Wisconsin Glacier nearly 14,000 years ago with a maximum depth of 136 feet. Subterranean springs help provide cool, clear, blue water of Iowa's most popular lake. I have lived here my entire life, raised my children here, and believe me....it is heaven on earth! Its even a blast when frozen!

Dale Hollow in Tenn will beat most of these and Lake of the Ozarks is a commercialized cesspool. I have lived in both and can't wait until my next trip to D.H. Dale Hollow has been proclaimed more than once as the clearest, cleanest man made lake east of the rockies. 645 miles of shoreline with only 12 miles developed into marinas and campgrounds. All the rest is smoky mountain wilderness. Also home of the world record smallmouth bass with numerous other species available for anglers. With it's under water communities and visibility, it is a fresh water scuba paradise. Check out some of the websites on it.
